Enola em Vaher managed the Hotel Chelsea in Second Life for over a decade. She worked with Mykal Skaal in the construction of this hotel (based on the historic RL hotel in NYC) and surrounding galleries. She maintained and enhanced them throughout her long stewardship.
An artist of merit herself, she was a champion and supporter of the arts in all forms, known and respected throughout the artistic community in SL. Her sponsorship and support have helped innumerable artists and performers in SL and RL
Always health challenged, she passed away in January of 2020. She will not only be missed, she can never be replaced in this community and in the hearts of everyone who knew her. This hotel and community will continue to be a beacon and foster for the arts community as her testament and legacy.
enola in her own words
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. It was an escape and a form of expression for me throughout my life.
I was accepted and given a full scholarship to the University Of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
While I love to draw this was not, however, what I wanted to do “for a living”. It was my dream to go into anthropology and apply my artistic skills in that field.
I went to graduate school at the University of Oklahoma, where I studied osteo-anthropology and focused on cranio-facial reconstruction.
I was diagnosed with cancer before I could graduate from grad school, however, and so never got to finish.
I came to SL as a social outlet; being mostly home bound i don’t get out much. Initially I just wanted to make friends and explore. I was thrilled to find that I could also display my art work here.
Only a couple of months after coming to SL I built my first gallery and put up my works to share with people. All of the art work is original art, drawings done in pencil and pen and ink. I do them in 1st life on paper, then scan them into the computer and up load them to SL. I do not use Photoshop or any thing to manipulate the drawings. They are as they are in 1st life. (only much larger, heh)
