Every story has a beginning….
The virtual Hotel Chelsea can be looked at as a continuation of what had begun in a section of Manhattan many years ago. Painters, sculptors, writers, photographers and musicians began to gravitate to the area surrounding the hotel, and to the hotel itself. What the virtual Chelsea has done is a continuation of the traditions that formed there in the 50’s and 60’s. It is the intent of these writings to recognize and to celebrate these traditions and its artists.
While Hotel Chelsea is, in itself, a true work of art, one often forgets that it is also surrounded by art galleries. Currently, there are more than 40 galleries located throughout the Lanestris sim with near 100% occupancy and an eclectic mix of artworks consisting of various types and style of paintings, photography and sculptures.
The hotel itself is located at 222 West 23rd Street and contains several galleries located on the ground floor of the hotel. In addition, Gallery 23 is located in a re-purposed synagogue that is separate from the hotel.
Located across the street from the hotel are a series of storefront galleries that line the entire block. Moving onto what is unofficially named 22nd Street, you will find a series of storefront galleries, two re-purposed buildings turned galleries and what is known as The Blue Angel poets dive.
Moving south from 22nd street will find more galleries housed in re-purposed buildings, including the Chelsea Sound Music Studio and Enola’s Finely Torn Gallery. Crossing the street will find you in Chelsea Plaza, which consists of even more galleries.
A true artist mecca.
