FEATURED POEM – OCTOBER 2021

PAIN

My body revolts winning attention;
My heart’s compulsion flooding sentiments.
Oh! The physical pain’s extreme laments
Is sedentary in my room’s isolation.
The world I love, I crave to rest upon;
I love our planet’s pathways, so content.
I love children’s sounds, dusk shadows’ descent.
Yet there is a freedom in isolation –
A freedom in great meditation, awareness;
Loneliness replaced with inward seeing’s,
Surreal realities without bitterness,
Lost in wholly independent healings.
Understanding my peace hosts a finesse
Unintended for earth’s able weaklings.

WHO WE ARE

The virtual Hotel Chelsea is home base for poetry, featuring three open mics (each with their own flavor) more than any other venue on the grid. The Chelsea also hosts the oldest continuously running open mic in Second Life, the Blue Angel Poet’s Dive.

WHEN AND WHERE WE MEET

SATURDAYS – 8 AM SLT
POET’S PLUNDER

Klannex Northmead, hosts this open mic at the El Quijote Lounge. It welcomes personal and favorite poet readings. A great orator, Klannex shares limericks, pirate, mermaid, philosophical, improvisational and musical works; welcoming everyone to do the same.

SUNDAYS – 12 PM SLT (Noon)
SUNDAY SPOKEN WORD

Sunday Spoken Word, hosted by Grail Arnica and Klannex, provides a ½ hour of open mic before and after a ½ hour reading by a featured poet from Second Life. Featured poets are listed on the events board in the El Quijote Lounge of the Virtual Hotel Chelsea.

On the first Sunday of the month, Grail and Klannex read a poet’s personal works. It’s a great opportunity for poets to hear how their works sound, allowing them to make those polishing touches of punctuation, rhythm and word selection.

SUNDAYS – 6 PM SLT – BLUE ANGEL POET’S DIVE

The oldest continuously running open mic in Second Life is found on the grounds of the Hotel Chelsea. Find the worn blue door in the Gallery district and you have arrived at the Blue Angel Poet’s Dive. It is hosted weekly by Merope (Merry) Madrigal and features some of the best orators and poets in Second Life.

It is known for its themes and contests, though there are no rules about participating or writing poems for either. Read what moves you! It’s a kick-back crowd of bohemians who dance on the bar and socialize after all the poetry to be recited is read.

Tai Thibaud, a regular, writes, "It's a nondescript blue door at the bus stop. If the dive wasn't located at a bus stop, you'd think the place would go bankrupt as it's frequented by poets, beatniks and beggars. But people come in to get change for the bus, buy a cup of coffee and add on something from the counter."
