About Inside the Outside Box:
Celebrating Shared Refuge in Art produced by Circle Mental Health
Saturday May 2nd through May 31, 2006
Opening: Saturday May 2nd, 10am – noon
Over the last three years or so the Art Circle has become one of Circle Mental Health’s precious gems. We have gathered every Sunday to share our scratchings and scribblings, and more importantly our company and kindness. Sometimes we share things that that we can’t always find words for, other times we laugh at how ridiculous the world can be, and other times we come together to support each other when the road seems particularly rough. For many of us the Art Circle is the first place we have ever shared our private art. Seeing this work every week is more than just a privilege, it is an opportunity to grow together as a community, as artists and as human beings.
This year’s show, “Inside the Outside Box” celebrates and shares the remarkable refuge that we have found in each other and in our creative endeavours. Many of us find that language alone can not express the complexities of our inner worlds and we turn to art to help us navigate internal turmoils, and hopefully find our way to a more meaningful happy life. Much of this work represents an inner search and sometimes struggle through private creative healing processes.
Please enjoy this rare and precious glimpse into our inner lives.
May is National Mental Health Month. Created by Mental Health America (https://www.mhanational.org/).
For anyone struggling with the pressure of today’s world, feeling alone, or wondering if they can feel better, this is Where to Start.
The world is constantly changing – for better or for worse – and it can be overwhelming to deal with everything going on around you. While society is getting more comfortable discussing mental health, it can still be hard to know “Where to Start” when it comes to taking care of your own well-being.
Here is this year’s focus:
This May, Mental Health America will help you:
* LEARN how modern life affects mental health with new resources to navigate our changing world.
* ACT by building your coping toolbox so you can manage stress, difficult emotions, and challenging situations.
* ADVOCATE to improve mental health for yourself, your friends and family, and your community.
